In partnership with the Edinburgh Whisky Academy, the Independent Wine Education Guild is pleased to announce  new online courses, Certificate in Scotch Whisky and Certificate in Irish Whiskey.

Exploring the fascinating world of whisk(e)y across eight modules, this fun and accessible SQA (The Scottish Qualifications Authority)-certified online courses will enhance your appreciation of all things aqua vitae.

Working through a series of interactive exercises, videos and pop quizzes, you’ll discover more about the history and business of Scotch / Irish before covering the entire production process, from raw materials to distillation, maturation and bottling.

The flexible, self-paced format allows you to learn in your own time and, with quizzes at the end of each module, you can measure all the knowledge you’re distilling as you go.

As well as a certificate of completion, you’ll come away knowing so much more about the golden liquor in your glass. Whether you consider yourself a whisk(e)y connoisseur or are simply curious to learn more, you’ll certainly get something out of our award-winning material and industry expertise.

Enrollment is open at any time to join the course for  an acces period of 180 days from the date of registration with EWA. Students will have access to the EWA online course for 180 days from the date of registration with EWA. You can complete the eight modules in your own time, whenever convenient for you. After 180 days, the course will no longer be available.   At the end of the course you may sit a multiple-choice online test to obtain your Certificate: passing grade is 80% and you may sit the test as many times as you wish within your alloted registration period.   Successful candidates can access their certificate digitally for download and self-printing.   There is no tasting requirement nor is there a tasting assesment in this course.

Certificate In Irish Whiskey Started Mar. 22, 2021

New! - Certificate in Irish Whiskey from the Edinburgh Whisky Academy to launch on Monday, March 22, 2021. Enrollment is open at any time to join the course for an acces period of 180 days from the date of registration with EWA.  The Certificate in Irish Whiskey comprises eight modules of engaging online content which aim to give the candidate an enhanced in-depth knowledge and appreciation of the different styles of Irish whiskey. The course was written and developed by Irish whiskey experts Fionnán O’Connor and Matt Healy. The candidate will explore the history and business of Irish whiskey, before learning the whole production and maturation processes; including the different equipment used dependent on the different mash bills adopted. The candidate will also learn about legal requirements and how to run a sensory analysis of Irish whiskey via a tutored tasting.  Beginner to intermediate, the course is well suited to those looking to break into the industry or who are new to the industry, as well as to enthusiasts looking to improve their knowledge. The course is delivered online and is completely self-paced, candidates have 180 days access to the material from registration. We estimate 8-10 hours of study time to complete the course. Successful candidates will receive a digital certificate of completion.
