Candice Chow 2006
My journey in the world of wine started during my undergraduate in England. I could not understand the wine menu and I swore that I would be able to understand the wine list and order my own wine at high-end restaurants.
Since then, I read books and attended casual classes and finally I completed by diploma in 2006!
My studies with IWEG gave me the knowledge, foundation and confidence to share my wine knowledge with friends and colleagues. I did informal wine tasting sessions @ work functions and taught a few sessions with IWEG.
Right now I am interested in understanding sustainability and wine making as a side interest. I am currently pursuing a doctorate in corporate social responsibility and environment management. While my research will not be focusing on wine and spirit, because of my interests in wine, I will be learning about sustainability practices in this industry along my doctorate journey.
Master of Wines is something I may consider pursing in the future, as well as getting into importing / distribution as a side business.
On a more serious note, I am looking to pursue a career in strategy and sustainability practices and any opportunities to work in the wine industry around these disciplines either as an executive or consultant will be fantastic.
My favourite part of my studies was going through that huge Jancis Robinson wine book and trying to memorize all the details.
Post graduate, my husband and I went on to explore the possibility of opening a wine bar at Blue Mountain. That is a very interesting experience despite the fact we could not move forward due to an impasse with the landlord.
