Igor Ryjenkov, Master Of Wine 1999
Born in Russia, Igor graduated from the Moscow Institute for Foreign Relations with a degree in Journalism.
After making Canada his home in the early 90-ies, Igor began his journey in wine with a visit to a Niagara Peninsula winery in 1995.
That visit inspired a serious reading, tasting, traveling and studying binge, which took him through the WSET Certificates and Diploma and straight into the Master of Wine (MW) program in 1999. During his MW studies he was twice awarded the North American scholarship as well as the Henkell-Sohnlein Award for best dissertation.
Igor’s wine studies culminated with achieving the Master Of Wine qualification in 2003. the person Canadian to achieve this!
He "turned pro" in 1999 as a retail product specialist with the Liquor Board of Ontario (LCBO). After 7 years on the front line in the two largest retail locations in Ontario, he is now in a buying position as the European Wines Product Manager for the Vintages Department (Premium Division) of the LCBO.
Igor has contributed to a number of wine books and manuals, judged in a number of international wine competitions, and regularly travels to the key wine producing area on business trips or as a part of the educational MW visits.
