Lindsay Groves 2009


Lindsay Groves originally studied oenology and viticulture at Niagara College, Canada and has worked in wineries both at home and abroad, most notably in Champagne, Bordeaux and Stellenbosch, SA.

An associate of the Institute of Wines and Spirits, Lindsay completed the Level 4 Diploma qualification through the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET), London, by way of the Independent Wine Education Guild (IWEG), Toronto. She is looking forward to beginning her studies for the Master of Wine qualification in the near future.

A certified Sommelier, she has worked at fine dining establishments in Toronto—including Via Allegro, boasting one of the world’s best wine cellars—and was recognized as ‘Ontario Sommelier of the Year’ in 2007 by the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation. More recently Lindsay was recognized as one of the Ontario Hostelry Institute’s “Top 30 Under 30” in 2008.

She currently works as a freelance wine writer and contributes to Food & Drink, Vines, CityBites, Ottawa Life, Gremolata, Sommelier India and Karaf Magazine (Turkey). She has also been published on Jancis Robinson’s ‘Purple Pages’. An associate of Tony Aspler O.C, she assists with wine reviews for

In addition to wine, Lindsay's other great love is travel, having spent time in Western Europe, the Middle East, Eastern and Southern Africa and India. She also has plans to author her first book.
