Robin’s journey into the alcohol beverage industry started with his adventures of seventeen years as a Cameraman working in the film industry. When traveling and filming in far-flung locations, Robin had the opportunity to discover, taste and appreciate the wonderful array of food and alcohol beverages the world had to offer.
In early 2000 he started volunteering with a reputable wine and spirits agency, working at trade shows and private tastings and seminars. This in turn inspired and fueled his desire to pursue his newfound interests and to advance his education in the alcohol beverage industry.
Robin’s professional transition for his passion occurred in 2010, becoming an employee for the agency he had volunteered for so many years previously. In 2012, he started work as a Sake Educator and LCBO Agent for Ontario Spring Water Sake Company, the first Sake brewery in Eastern North America.
In 2014, Robin became Canada’s first Certified Sake Sommelier, or Kikisake-Shi (SSI) with the Sake Service Institute of Japan. He also holds an Advanced Sake Professional (ASP) Certification, is a Certified Whisky Ambassador, and has completed the WSET L3 Award in Sake, WSET Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits, and the WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits.
Robin continues to work as an agent with MCO Wine and Spirits, a professional importer of vintage offering, as well as a whisky consultant for restaurants, private sake and spirits tasting events, trade shows and seminars.
Robin’s drive to teach the history and development of sake and spirits and its connection to the people, food and land is what inspires him to continue his journey of knowledge and adventure in an ever evolving and inspiring industry.
