Rebecca Richardson is a Wine Scholar Guild Top Exam Scorer

Shout out to IWEG student Rebecca Richardson for recently completing the French Wine Scholar with highest honours. Rebecca is currently pursuing the Italian Wine Scholar as well. Great job!

Dive deeper into the world of sake with Sake Samurai Michael Tremblay  

WSET Level 3 Award in Sake is an advanced level course for sake industry professionals or sake enthusiasts, taught by WSET Certified Sake Educator and Sake Samurai, Michael Tremblay.  

This course provides in-depth understanding of the production methods that affect sake style, quality and price. It develops systematic tasting and description skills, as well as the ability to make recommendations. You will:
  • Explore in detail the techniques employed in sake production
  • Understand how these techniques affect sake style and quality
  • Experience a range of principal and specialty types of sake, evaluating quality, identity and price, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Sake (SAT) during the tasting and exam preparation workshop.
  • Appreciate the historic and current cultural and commercial significance of sake in Japan and in export markets
  • Assess and describe sake with confidence, and be able to make selection, storage and service suggestions
Each week’s session will consist of a guided practice tasting using the Systematic Approach to Tasting. Registered students must purchase the 6-bottle (300ml format) package of sakes from Metropolitan Wines and Sakes for $150 + HST + delivery.

The course will be delivered in a blended learning format of four 3-hour synchronous online sessions (live and recorded) on the Zoom platform.

The course will take place on Mondays, May 3rd - May 31st @ 10:30am - 1:30pm followed by an exam at IWEG on Sunday, June 6th at 11:30am.

Deep lemon color.
Medium(+) intensity aromas and flavors of lemon, nectarines, peach, lychee, linden tree flower, and wet rocks.
Medium dry, high acidity, medium(+) body, low alcohol, medium finish.
Good quality.

Here’s how to participate:
1. Purchase Kendermanns Organic Trocken Rosé 2019 at the LCBO.
2. Take a picture of the wine and write a short tasting note on the wine.
3. If you are on social media, post your photo and tasting note and tag IWEG and Wines of Germany Canada on any or all of these social media platforms:

Contest details:
From January to June, we will present a featured wine of the month for IWEG students that is available through the LCBO retail network.

Each month a winner will be selected to receive a Wines of Germany prize package that includes a $50 LCBO Gift card redeemable on German wine and Wines of Germany swag.

The selected winner will be contacted by IWEG to confirm mailing details.

Effort will be made to select wines that are readily available in LCBO stores and online to allow time for wine pick up or delivery.
