Shop Local During Ontario Wine Week

June 14 - June 20, 2020

Officially declared by the provincial government in June 2005, every third week in June has been proclaimed Ontario Wine Week. This act helps to recognize the efforts of Ontario grape growers and winemakers and solidify the recognition of wines grown in Ontario.

Ontario VQA wineries are open and many are beginning  to resume tasting experiences at their vineyards. You can also purchase VQA wines online direct from the winery or through LCBO online. Learn more.

Here's why you should sign up for the WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines

Nell Best shares her story

“The WSET Diploma program was a significant undertaking - one that I am incredibly proud to have accomplished. The level of knowledge I have attained through this program has allowed me to flourish both personally and professionally. By refining my palate and gaining a thorough understanding of production methods, wine regions and styles, I’ve been able to confidently engage with enthusiasts and industry professionals alike. As a product specialist at the LCBO, I am able to educate and share my extensive product knowledge. This has afforded me the ability to better make recommendations that best suit my customers needs. Perhaps most valuable of all, the Diploma program is where I made important and lasting connections with fellow aficionados. The WSET Diploma presents a worthy challenge for anyone who finds themselves enamoured with the world of beverage alcohol and it has been immensely gratifying to have gone through it.”  – Nell Best DipWSET, LCBO Product Consultant

IWEG Announces a Bursary Program for Black Students in Canada

5 bursaries offered

IWEG recently released a public statement regarding our commitment to providing a learning and working environment that recognizes human rights and values equity, diversity and inclusion in its wine, spirit and sake programs. Over the last few weeks, we have listened to the conversations and voices speaking out about anti-Black racism and discrimination and this has led us to reflect on how we can support this movement. IWEG stands in solidarity with those who stand up against racism and who speak out against injustice and violence targeted at the Black community. Read the full public statement.

As an organization dedicated to learning, we have a responsibility to educate and reflect the diversity and intersectionality of the communities we serve. IWEG’s Board of Directors has recognized that Black students are currently underserved in wine, spirit and sake education programs.

As a first step, IWEG has developed a bursary program for Black students in Canada for the academic year September 2020 to June 2021. Five bursaries will be offered to qualifying students for WSET Level 1 Award in Wines, Spirits or Sake and WSET Level 2 Award in Wines or Spirits. This bursary program was made possible through the generous support of an individual donor. Learn more about the bursary program.
