Discover Japan's National Beverage with Sake Samurai Michael Tremblay

WSET Level 1 Award in Sake s a beginner level introduction to sake for those starting a career in the industry or beginning to explore sake for personal interest.

You will learn: 

  • The basic principles of sake production
  • The main types and styles of sake
  • How to serve sake
  • Factors affecting the flavour of sake
  • How to describe sake using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Sake® (SAT)

The course will take place on Mondays, November 16th and 23rd @ 10AM - 1PM.

Optional sake tasting:

Metropolitan Wines and Sakes have arranged for a 6-bottle (300ml format) package of sakes at $105 + tax. These sakes will be used during the SAT tasting component of the course but are not mandatory for course completion. Become an Italian Wine Scholar

The Italian Wine Scholar program is an official 2-unit certification and course of study designed by the Wine Scholar Guild to provide current, accurate information on all of the wine regions of Northern, Central and Southern Italy, and to validate proficiency in the wines and wine regions of the country. Unit 1 covers Northern Italy, and Unit 2 covers Central and Southern Italy. The units of study can be taken in any order. 

Develop specialist knowledge of Toscana, Marche, Abruzzo, Umbria, Lazio, Molise, Campania, Basilicata, Puglia, Sardegna, Sicilia and Calabria.

Unit 2 takes place via Zoom this fall on Thursdays, November 5 - December 17th @ 6:30PM to 8PM.

WSET Level 3 Award in Spirits

Coming to IWEG in Winter 2021

The new WSET Level 3 Award in Spirits is an advanced-level qualification for professionals and enthusiasts wishing to acquire a detailed understanding of the spirits of the world and develop the tasting skills required to accurately describe and evaluate a spirit.

This qualification is intended to build on knowledge and skills gained from the WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits. You’ll acquire a deep theoretical understanding of the techniques used in spirit production, from the processing of raw materials to post-distillation operations. Through a combination of tasting and the application of theoretical knowledge you will learn to explain confidently why spirits look and taste the way they do and how and why they differ from each other.

The course will be offered in the Winter 2021 semester in a a 9-week structured online program.
