THE GRAND CRU OF WINE EDUCATION
WSET LEVEL 4 DIPLOMA IN WINES AND SPIRITS 2018 - 2020

The WSET Level 4 Diploma qualification is considered by many in the global wine industry as the premium all round wine and spirit qualification. It is designed to give specialist knowledge of the principal wines and spirits of the world, combined with commercial factors and a thorough system for the professional evaluation of wines and spirits.

Diploma Level graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to underpin the job requirements in buying and merchandising roles such as Category Manager, Product Manager and Product Consultant, in hospitality and service roles such as Beverage Director, Wine Consultant and Hospitality Manager, and in sales and marketing roles such as a Regional Manager, District Manager and Brand Manager.

The Diploma is viewed universally as the stepping-stone to the Master of Wine program.

Why IWEG?
As the leading organization in wine, spirits and sake education in Canada, IWEG has offered the WSET Level 4 Diploma since 1988.

Our 166 Diploma Graduates over the years have gone on to become vital members of the wine and spirits industry in Canada and worldwide. IWEG holds the record for largest amount of Diploma graduates in Canada!

IWEG's Diploma pass rates are higher than the WSET global average scores, and we have a specialized team of Certified Educators, who have gone through teacher training, such as a Master of Wine, Masters of Wine candidates, Bordeaux Accredited Tutors and other experts who only teach the Diploma, nothing else.

IWEG is now accepting registration for the July 2018 WSET Level 4 Diploma. Find out more about the programme here!

Distance Learning
The WSET Level 4 Diploma Distance Learning is a two-year programme through the WSET Global Online Campus, which begins the first week of August 2018 and runs through to June 2020.

A strong online programme, with weekly assignments and student forums, which will assist in your studies and provide engaging opportunities for feedback, complements this intensive self-study qualification.

The WSET offers a feedback program whereby students are able to take mock tests based on the Diploma examinations and receive feedback on performance. This helps students understand and reach the standard required for the Diploma qualification assessment.

IWEG also complements the course with a Key Skills Workshop Weekend in Toronto in October 2018 to provide students with the valuable experience of in class instruction.

WSET DIPLOMA STUDENT PROFILE
Kari Macknight Dearborn is a WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines and Spirits candidate at IWEG. We invited her to share her story.

What is your current employment position and where?
I have half a dozen jobs right now, but the majority of my time is spent doing sales and marketing for Perugini, a boutique wine, beer, and spirits agency here in Toronto specializing in premium Italian products.

Describe a typical day on the job.
I'm delighted to say there is no such thing! That said, I do have things I do nearly every day, like placing orders and tracking our products through the LCBO, managing inventory, making sales calls and following up, visiting restaurant clients for tastings, researching new products, and whatever else is required. In a smaller agency you wear whichever hats you need to – and that is exactly what I like. I devote time to studying and tasting every day, and I review what is happening in the global wine and spirits market. With whatever time is left over I try to enjoy the benefits of being home-based, like walking my dogs in the park and working on my vegetable garden.

How has the WSET Diploma helped your career?
Being a student at the Diploma level has definitely opened doors for me as someone breaking into the industry as a second career, since it is an internationally recognized qualification and it complements my many years in the advertising business. Because of the in-depth study we do in each unit along the way and the extensive tasting I do with my fellow students outside class hours, I've had the chance to really explore categories like spirits and sparkling wine. These are important elements in the portfolios I represent, so real expertise in these segments is as important for me as mastering still wines.

We wish our Diploma students currently studying for their upcoming exam the best of luck!

IWEG is now accepting registration for the July 2018 WSET Level 4 Diploma. Find out more about the programme here!
