Dive in and learn

Valentin Voinov is a recent WSET Level 3 Award in Wines and French Wine Scholar student at IWEG. Here's what motivates him:

I have always been a huge food lover and once I discovered my passion for wine, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to dive in and learn not only about wine, but also everything else wine represents - culture, tradition, geography, history and language. Pursuing WSET Level 3 Award in Wines and the French Wine Scholar was the right move for me and I don’t plan on stopping there. I look forward to visiting new wine regions armed with the knowledge I gained.

IWEG is looking for new WSET instructors

IWEG has a qualified and strong instructor team who care deeply about the wine, spirits and sake industry and in helping both professionals and enthusiasts advance their careers and goals.

As we build for the future, we are looking to strengthen our education teams with instructors who can deliver on our vision to be Canada's premier drinks institution for wine, spirits and sake education.

IWEG is looking for new Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) instructors at all levels of WSET qualifications (Levels 1 to 4) for wine, spirits and sake.

If you have WSET qualifications and a passion for teaching adult learners, we want to hear from you!
  • Let us know what WSET qualifications you hold.
  • If you have passed the WSET Certified Educator training program, this is a bonus!
  • Prior teaching experience is highly valued, particularly with adult learners.
  • You are able to work in both a collaborative and team environment and lead a class of adult learners independently.
  • You have a passion for wine, spirits and/or sake education.
  • IWEG is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion within the wine, spirits and sake community. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply.
Please send your CV and a cover letter to Krystenne MacMullin at krystenne@iweg.org by June 30, 2021. Please note that only those submissions that meet our criteria will be contacted for a follow-up interview on Zoom.

Discover the wines of Germany, one bottle at a time!

Each month, in collaboration with Wines of Germany, we have presented a featured wine of the month that is available through the LCBO. IWEG students were invited to purchase the featured wine and practice their tasting skills for a chance to win a Wines of Germany prize package!

The June and final winner is Kaitlyn. Here is their tasting note for Anselmann Edesheimer Rosengarten Siegerrebe Spätlese 2019 (LCBO#: 910554):

You might think this is a Riesling when your eye first glances, but in fact this is a different grape varietal - Siegerrebe!

🍇 Siegerrebe is a pink-skinned white-wine grape created from a crossing of Gewürztraminer and Madeleine Angevine and is known for sweeter wines.
Isn't it crazy that the world has so many grape varietal's and you will probably never hear of half of them in your lifetime unless you search for it?!

I am currently studying with IWEG and they have featured these wines to try through Wines of Germany! I've enjoyed being exposed to new varietals out there.

👀 Golden honey hue
👃 Sweet, candied stone-fruit, apricot, yellow apples, honey
👅 sweet floral taste, candied stone-fruit, honeycomb, peach, golden delicious apples
▪️ 8.5% Alcohol
▪️80g/L Sugar meaning it's sweet

I paired this with some blue cheese and really enjoyed it!

Wines of Germany would like to thank all participants in the challenge this year.
