WSET Level 1 Award in Wines + so much more

Recommended for: Ambitious foodies, masterchefs, and hospitality industry newcomers.

Our unique WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is a perfect starting point for structured wine studies for the wine enthusiast. 

Students will complete the requirements of the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines and also discover the key elements of food and wine taste interactions such as sweetness, acidity and saltiness in food.  

This enriched food and wine pairing component will be delivered by chef/sommelier/food writer Tonia Wilson. Students will have the opportunity to experience key pairing principles through 5 gourmet tastings. Tonia will also guide discussion about considerations when pairing wines with dishes from non-European cuisines, and lead the group in educational and entertaining menu design activities. 

Students will meet WSET Level 1 learning objectives and leave with practical knowledge to put to use when selecting or recommending wines for diverse dining occasions.

Ontario's Brave New Wines

Recommended for: Ontario wine lovers, eco-conscious friends and locavores.
 
Ontario's Brave New Wines is now into its third successful year and IWEG continues to develop and broaden the learning experience of Ontario wines. For the 2017 program we are excited and proud to introduce wine educator David Larocque.  
In response to student demand this is now acertified program, endorsed by the Wine Council of Ontario and candidates successful in passing the final exam will hold a recognized Certificate as an Ontario Wine Specialist.

Students will attend four full days of study with each morning focusing on the wine appellations of Ontario and basic wine education, while the afternoons will present insightful tasting opportunities with a number of local winemakers, each addressing unique aspects of their winemaking style that elaborates on the morning studies. The final class will include a tour of three Niagara wineries. 

In collaboration with the Wine Marketing Association of Ontario, these 4 sessions of learning and tasting will celebrate local wines, growers and producers and give insight into the bold venture that is winemaking in Ontario.

WSET Level 1 Award in Sake - new!

Recommended for: Sushi lovers, adventurous tasters and thirsty trendsetters.

This qualification offers a hands-on introduction to the world of sake.  You will explore the main styles and types of sake through sight, smell and taste to develop an understanding of the key factors affecting flavours and aromas.

IWEG is the only Approved Programme Provider in Eastern Canada awarded the privilege to host the WSET Level 1 Award in Sake. We are delighted to include this course to our portfolio.

WSET Level 2 Award in Wine and Spirits

Recommended for: New industry professionals, driven enthusiasts and renassiance men and women. 

The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits qualification covers the key grape varieties grown and the different styles of wine produced around the world, as well as the production of spirits and liqueurs. During class, students will be taken through a guided tasting of wines and use the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting wine that will teach you to assess wines in a structured manner.

French Wine Scholar

Recommended for: Terroir tourists, Bordeaux enthusiasts, and Francophiles.

The French Wine Scholar program is anofficial certification course of study designed by the Wine Scholar Guild to provide current, accurate information on all of the wine regions of France and validate proficiency in the Wines of France. The program has an updated curriculum including a new study manual.  

The FWS programs are endorsed by Wines of France/French National Wine Office, and the courses are designed to give you the most complete and current understanding of France's fine wines, through visual presentation, and of course tasting a wide range of French wines!

WSET Level 3 Award in Wines

Recommended for: Passionate wine students who have already completed WSET Level 2 or an equivalent wine course.

The New WSET Level 3 Award in Wines is for individuals seeking to delve deeper into the world of wines.  The certification is designed to allow students to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of the factors that affect wine style, quality and price. Upon completion students will be able to make accurate assessments andauthoritative recommendations on wines from around the world.  

This certification is ideal for both the wine trade and for wine enthusiasts.  Trade employees working in or aspiring to roles in a supervisory capacity with responsibility for advising management, answering customer queries and making informed selections of wines in a wide variety of situations will especially benefit from the program. This course is also the next step for the wine enthusiast wishing to develop a deeper understanding of wine and build on the knowledge gained in Level 2.

Italian Wine Scholar

Recommended for: Barolo devotees, indigenous grape geeks and history buffs.

The Italian Wine Scholar is an Italian wine course designed to provide committed students of wine with the most advanced and comprehensive specialization study program on Italian wine bar none!

IWEG is one of the first international schools and the first school in Canada to offer the Italian Wine Scholar program. 

The top performing student in the new Italian Wine Scholar will receive a study trip scholarship from the Italian Trade Commission in Canada to a consorzio (specific wine region) in Italy!

The WSET Level 2 Award In Spirits course has been designed to provide in-depth knowledge of Brandy, Gin, Rum, Tequila, Vodka, Whiskies and Liqueurs. This qualification is ideal for bartenders andtrade employees working with a variety of spirits, answering customer queries and making informed selections of spirits in a wide variety of situations.
 
You will:
  • Learn the Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Spirits.
  • Understand the factors influencing the production of spirits and liqueurs and how these in turn influence the characteristics of the products.
